At a distance of about 9 kms from Mirik in Darjeeling, lies a beautiful observatory known as the Tingling View Point or Kawley Dara View Point, which offers a mesmerizing panoramic view of the sprawling tea gardens of the surrounding valley.

The view point is known for the vantage point it offers to witness the beautiful tea gardens of Mirik valley with the backdrop of the mighty Himalayan ranges.

PS: Tingling Point on the Nag Tibba Ridge in Mussoorie which got its name from the tingling sensation a Kenyan hiker experienced, has no relation whatsoever with the Tingling in Darjeeling which is named from a nearby tea estate called ‘Tingling’.

Tingling View Point is one of the most popular tourist attractions offering a perfect paradise setting for a photoshoot. The narrow platform, adorned with pine trees on both sides at the top of Tingling View Point, besides providing a shelter from direct sun’s rays, offers an unobstructed 360-degree view of the surrounding landscape.

Not very far from here you get an “I❤️ Mirik” zone and a replica steam engine train (entry into the coach is not allowed), making it an ideal spot for photography enthusiasts.

There are few stalls and restaurants where one can purchase fresh packaged tea, savor light snacks and tea or even try the local cuisine.

The sunrise and the sunset from here are a visual delight. Imagine witnessing the first rays of the sun casting a golden glow over the mist-laden hills, gradually illuminating the entire landscape. The spectacle is nothing short of breathtaking, leaving you spellbound and etching an indelible memory in your mind.  Similarly, as the day comes to a close, the setting sun paints the sky with vibrant hues of orange, pink, and purple, bidding adieu to another day in a mesmerizing display of colors.

Apart from the surrounding tea gardens, Tingling View Point also offers a spectacular view of the Kanchenjunga Mountain range, which is visible on clear days. The snow-capped peaks of Kanchenjunga, the third-highest mountain in the world, provide a stunning contrast to the green hills and the blue sky on a clear day.

While the beauty of Tingling View Point is a sight to behold, there are moments when dense fog and mist envelop the area, rendering it temporarily invisible. However, on a clear day, even the Balason river, Dudhia, Sourenee and Sukhna Cantonment area are prominently visible.

To reach Tingling View Point from Siliguri, take the Naxalbari – Mirik road via Potong which is very scenic, with lush green forests, tea gardens, and the sound of birds chirping in the background. For motorcycle riders, this curvy route with sharp bends provides the freedom of the open road to immerse in a symphony of exhilaration. The meandering roads that wind through the tea gardens crisscrossing the steep hills, create picturesque images reminiscent of postcards.
