Speakers and Secretaries from North East Indian State Assemblies attended the 66th CPA in Accra, Ghana
The 66th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Conference, held from 2nd to 6th October 2023 in Accra, Ghana, witnessed the participation of Speakers and Secretaries from the State Legislative Assemblies of North East India.
This conference of parliamentary representatives from across the Commonwealth is a platform for discussions and engage in plenary sessions and delve into a range of issues on critical matters of Pan-Commonwealth interest.

The 66th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC), hosted by the Parliament of Ghana and the CPA Ghana Branch, brought together delegates from more than 60 Member Countries.
The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association is one of the oldest International Associations of Parliamentarians from across the Commonwealth countries, founded in the year of 1911. The CPA consists of over 180 Legislatures from across the globe, divided into 9 (Nine) geographic regions of the Commonwealth.

During this five-day conference, a series of additional meetings and conferences took place, including:
- 39th CPA Small Branches Conference
- Meetings of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) and Commonwealth Parliamentarians with Disabilities (CPwD)
- 66th CPA General Assembly
- meetings of the CPA Executive Committee
- 57th Society of Clerks at the Table (SoCATT) meeting.
One of the main discourses at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association conference was regarding the potential transformation of the organization from a charitable entity to a full-fledged international inter-parliamentary institution. The caucus held discussions on this important issue, with a focus on ensuring that the United Kingdom enacts the necessary legislation by April 2024. If this deadline is not met, the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association headquarters could be relocated to Africa.
The official opening ceremony was graced by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana & Vice Patron, CPA, Mr Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, alongside other esteemed dignitaries. Ind this programme, where strategic discussions, international partnerships and contributions to the collective efforts of the Commonwealth nations are shaping up in Accra.
The North East Indian delegation played a vital role in these discussions. Speakers and Secretaries from this region underscored the importance of their contributions to the global parliamentary dialogue and exchange ideas, foster collaboration, and address common challenges.
