Championing the ‘vocal for local’ cause, Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, during his visit to 1st Jhum Fair cum Chiecha Licha (Food fair), called for adopting organic cultivation strengthening support for organic farmers. The fair, organized by the Chiechamia Women Organisation aims to encourage the farmers and uplift their economy and also to directly connect farmers with customers.

Chiechama is one of the largest villages in the Kohima region having vast agricultural land and fertile soil and is well known for its chillies, banana, local onions, pumpkin, cucumbers and tree tomatoes. Many farmers in Chiechama village supply their organic vegetables to Kohima and Dimapur markets, earning good profits during season.

Lauding the contributions of the Naga women in promoting organic farming, the CM urged everyone to keep promoting local produce and cuisine. He stressed on the need to document the rich traditions of the Naga cuisines and the distinct identity in terms of food habits and traditions of the Nagas.
