Nilai Tea Estate produces premium quality tea using traditional orthodox method rather than the CTC method. The traditional orthodox method of tea manufacturing involves withering, rolling, fermenting, drying and shorting.

The climate and soil conditions of the region have proved ideal for growing the unique medicinal-enriched black and green tea variety, which caters to the domestic needs, though not yet exported. A distinguishing feature of Nilai tea is that its rich aroma and robust flavour is felt only upon the second boil, making it a truly unique and sought-after variety.

The locally packaged tea of this tea estate is supplied mainly to the markets of Ukhrul and Imphal. The tea estate is unable to meet the demands from other states due to limited production owing to power supply disturbances.  However, people working in the estate firmly believe that its export to other states and even to foreign countries is possible if the Government of Manipur provides necessary support.

Tourists can take a tour of the estate and learn about the traditional orthodox method of tea-making process. Tea enthusiasts can even sample some of the finest tea and purchase directly from the estate.

Located around 120 kms away from the bustling capital city of Imphal, the charming tea estate is spread over an area of around 15 hectares on a picturesque steep slope of the Nilai Kaphung, on the eastern side of Talui.
