Jyotiraditya Scindia and CM Pema Khandu to Inaugurate Tezu Airport’s New Infrastructure
Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Minister for Civil Aviation and Steel, and Pema Khandu, the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, will inaugurate the newly developed infrastructure of Tezu Airport on 24th of September 2023. The newly developed infrastructure will improve connectivity, economic growth and enhance tourism prospects for Arunachal Pradesh.
Tezu Airport, situated in the beatiful town of Tezu, is a domestic airport. Until recently, it operated with a single runway, but with the collective efforts of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and the State Government, it has undergone transformation. Covering 212 acres of land, Tezu Airport now has an upgraded infrastructure tailored to accommodate ATR 72 type aircraft.
Tezu Airport became operational in 2018 under the RCS UDAN scheme of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Presently, the airport is connected to Dibrugarh, Imphal, and Guwahati through regular scheduled flights operated by Alliance Air and Flybig Airline.
Tezu Airport Upgradation Highlights
The development project, costing Rs. 170 Crores, encompassed various crucial aspects of airport infrastructure:
Runway Extension: The runway has been extended to measure 1500m x 3m which will ensure safe landing and takeoff of aircraft.
New Apron Construction: A new apron for two ATR 72 type aircraft has been constructed for facilitating ground operations.
Terminal Building: A new terminal building has been erected with modern amenities.
Fire Station cum ATC Tower: A fire station combined with an Air Traffic Control tower has been constructed to ensure the safety and security of the airport’s operations.
Salient Features of the Terminal Building
Terminal area: With a 4000 square meters area, the terminal offers ample space for passengers.
Peak hour serving capacity: With the capacity to accommodate 300 passengers during peak hours, Tezu Airport is equipped to handle increasing footfalls.
Check-in counters: Initially, five check-in counters are available, with plans for an additional three in the near future.
Arrival carrousels: Two arrival carrousels streamline the baggage retrieval process.
Aircraft parking bays: The airport provides two dedicated bays for ATR-72 type aircraft for aircraft handling.
Sustainability Features
Several eco-friendly features have been incorporated into the newly built infrastructure:
Double insulated roofing system: This feature helps regulate temperature and reduce the need for excessive cooling or heating.
Energy Efficient HVAC & lighting system: Energy consumption is minimized through the use of advanced heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, along with efficient lighting.
Low Heat Gain Glazing: Specialized glazing reduces heat gain, enhancing the comfort of passengers inside the terminal.
ECBC-compliant equipment: The airport adheres to the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) standards.
Solid waste management: A robust waste management system is in place for promoting responsible waste disposal practices.
Water management: Treated water is reused for flushing and horticulture purposes, while rainwater harvesting is integrated with a Sustainable Urban Drainage System.
Benefits of the Project
The transformation of Tezu Airport ushers in a host of benefits for the region:
Increased capacity: With enhanced infrastructure, the airport can now handle more traffic, supporting the growth of regional air travel.
Improved connectivity: The improved connectivity provided by Tezu Airport will facilitate easy travel between the northeastern region and the rest of the country.
Boost to tourism & economic growth: The development is expected to attract travelers which will boost tourism as well as economic growth in Arunachal Pradesh.
