Milan gears up for the 17th ‘Celebrating North East India Festival’
The 17th Edition of ‘Celebrating North East India Festival,’ jointly organized by the Consulate General of India, Milan, and The North East Institute of Fashion Technology (NEIFT), is set to captivate audiences on the 9th of September 2023 at the vibrant Mela of fashion in Milan, Italy. The event will take place within the elegant and historically significant premises of the Museum – Villa Necchi Campiglio.
Last year, the International Festival was held in Washington DC, USA, which was a grand success. This year, the festival, held in Italy would showcase traditional sustainable textiles of the Northeast India. It is an opportunity for the world to witness the rich heritage of Northeast and a moment of pride for India, all happening at the fashion capital of the world.
The Festival Director and CEO, Vikram Rai Medhi was quoted as saying, “The Meghalaya Tourism and Nagaland Tourism have come forward to join hands in presenting the vibrant Region of the Country to the who’s who of Milan’s Cultural Connoisseurs and Political Leaders. Ministry of DoNER, Ministry of Textiles, KVIC, Ministry of MSME, etc. has come forward to support and be associated with the festival.”

Lisapila Aier, Senior PRO, Government of Nagaland while addressing the media said that, “the Hornbill Festival, celebrating its silver jubilee edition next year, could witness a rise in tourists visiting from European countries due to Nagaland’s participation in the festival to be held in the heart of Italy’s cultural capital.”
Eight talented fashion designers hailing from Northeast India are set to showcase their exquisite clothing collections, crafted from eco-friendly textiles and rich traditional fabrics indigenous to the North East region. These beautiful garments will be worn by renowned models from the Milan fashion industry.
A diverse delegation from the North East, comprising talented individuals such as dancers, designers, models, artists, and officials, among others, is eagerly making their journey to actively participate in and fully engage with the program. Additionally, the event will be enriched by the captivating performances of folk dancers from the North East, promising to create a truly unforgettable and enchanting experience for all attendees.
