Manipur emerged victorious at the 23rd Sub-Junior National Wushu Championships, held at the University of Jammu’s Gymnasium Hall. The team secured a dominant win, claiming the overall championship title. Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir followed close behind, securing second and third place respectively.

The Manipur team displayed exceptional skill, securing the overall championship title with a commendable medal haul of 18 gold, 13 silver, and 18 bronze medals.

The 23rd Sub Junior National Wushu Championship was organized by the Wushu Association of Jammu and Kashmir, with the support of the Wushu Association of India. The four-day-long tournament, which ran from March 26th to 31st 2024, witnessed a commendable display of talent from young athletes across the nation.

Manipur’s success stemmed from their impressive performance in both Taolu (forms) and Sanda (sparring) disciplines. They dominated the Sub-Junior Boys’ and Girls’ Taolu categories, leaving Jammu and Kashmir and Tamil Nadu (Girls) and Uttar Pradesh (Boys) in the runner-up positions. While Haryana displayed strength in Sanda (Girls), Manipur’s overall medal count across both disciplines propelled them to the top.

Nameirakpam Ahenbi bagged a gold medal each in Daoshu and Changquan, while Chingkheihunba Salam and Laitonjam Tomthinganba secured gold in Jianshu and Qiangshu respectively.

The championship served as a platform for young athletes to showcase their potential and compete at a national level. Applauding the efforts of the participants and organizers, Prof. (Dr.) Daud Iqbal Baba, Director of Sports at the University of Jammu, praised the athletes, calling them “messengers of peace.”

Manipur’s achievement at the 23rd Sub-Junior National Wushu Championships adds another feather to their cap, solidifying their reputation as a powerhouse in the Indian Wushu scene.
