The anticipation is reaching its peak as Chawngfianga Middle School, Saiden, Kulasib, Mizoram, and Minerva Public School, Mohali, Punjab, prepare to lock horns in the thrilling finals of the 62nd Subroto Cup International Football Tournament. This highly anticipated showdown is scheduled to take place today at the Army Services Corps (ASC) Centre in Bengaluru.

Both teams, Chawngfianga Middle School and Minerva Public School, are entering the championship match with a strong sense of confidence. Both the teams believe to hold the cup setting the stage for an exhilarating contest. The 62nd edition of India’s premier school football tournament will witness the Boys Under-14 final at the Army Service Corps Centre Football Ground in Bengaluru in presence of Air Marshal R. Radhish AVSM, VM, Air Officer Commanding-In-Chief, Training Command, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest.

In the last edition of the Subroto Cup, the football tournaments were held in Delhi and Gurugram. This time, though the Under-17 junior boys and girls tournaments was held in Delhi-NCR, the Under-14 sub-junior boys competition was played at the ASC Centre, the Air Force School, Jalahalli and the Air Force School, Yehalanka in Bengaluru.

This prestigious Subroto Cup event attracted a total of 109 teams from 27 states and Union Territories, with teams from Bangladesh and Nepal adding an international flavor to the competition. Over 180 matches were played in this year’s Subroto Cup tournament, showcasing the growing enthusiasm for football at the school level.

Chawngfianga Middle School earned their spot in the finals with an impressive journey. They kicked off their campaign by defeating Army Public School 13-0 to qualify for the quarterfinals from Group B. In the quarterfinals, they edged out H.K. Singh Memorial Secondary School, West Jaintia Hills, Jowai, Meghalaya, with a solitary goal, securing their place in the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, Chawngfianga Middle School delivered a dominant performance, beating Manikpara High School, Jhargram, West Bengal, 5-0, to secure their place in the highly-anticipated finals. Isak Lalmalsawma has been the standout player for the team, leading the scoring charts with five goals.

On the other side of the pitch, Minerva Public School, Mohali, Punjab, became the first school representing the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) to reach the finals. This also marks the first time a school from Punjab has achieved this milestone, and Minerva Public School is determined to create history on both fronts.

Football enthusiasts and supporters from across the nation are eagerly awaiting this clash of titans as Chawngfianga Middle School and Minerva Public School prepare to make history in the 62nd Subroto Cup International Football Tournament finals.
