Tripura becomes the second state in Northeast India to launch e-Cabinet system for digital governance
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha launched an e-cabinet system to promote digital infrastructure and government service digitization. The inaugural Council of Ministers meeting took place without any paper documents, demonstrating the state’s commitment to digital governance.
Tripura now joins the ranks of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Arunachal Pradesh as the fourth state to adopt the e-cabinet system. Among the northeastern states, Tripura becomes the second to embrace the paperless model.
All future cabinet meetings in Tripura will be paperless, aiming to reduce environmental impact as ministers and bureaucrats will use tablets. This transition to the e-Cabinet system is in sync with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India initiative, which seeks to achieve smart governance.
In the first meeting, the government approved a loan of Rs 160 crore from the Asian Development Bank for tourism and urban development. Chief Minister Saha explained that Tripura’s e-cabinet system follows a model similar to Uttarakhand’s and was launched by the National Informatics Centre and the state’s information and cultural affairs department.

Chief Minister Saha highlighted that digitization will enhance e-governance, align with the national Digital India initiative, improve transparency, efficiency, and accountability. The e-cabinet app allows for the online submission, review, and approval of cabinet memos with robust privacy safeguards.
The e-cabinet system is expected to eliminate delays caused by physical document movement, making government decision-making more dynamic. Tripura has been actively working on digital infrastructure development, including introducing e-file and office systems, to align with the Digital India campaign.
Various departments in Tripura have embraced e-Office and E-Cabinet systems to improve efficiency and accountability. Digitization makes records easily accessible, enhancing accountability and streamlining government processes. The government recognized departments that achieved 100% e-office adoption, with 41 out of 94 government departments receiving commendations.
