Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to inaugurate “East Tech 2023” on October 10th
Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, is set to inaugurate the mega defence event, “East Tech 2023” on October 10, 2023, in Guwahati, Assam. This event is the first of its kind in the North East region and is organized by the Eastern Army Command and the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Government of Assam. The purpose of the event is to showcase the latest defence technology and equipment made in India to meet the needs of the Eastern Command.
Under the “Rakhsha Atmanirhbhar Bharat” vision to make India self-reliant in the defence sector, the event will highlight the use of indigenous, innovative and future technologies. There will be seminars on advanced technologies and a medical symposium. The goal is to help the Eastern Command use modern technology to meet its operational challenges.

East Tech 2023 will have the presence of important dignitaries, including Bimal Borah, Minister of Industries & Commerce, Lieutenant General RP Kalita, General Officer Commanding in Chief, Eastern Command, Lieutenant General Manish Erry, General Officer Commanding, Gajraj Corps, Ravi Kota, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary for Home & Political Department, Passport & Prison and Industries, Commerce & Public Enterprises Department. Many other high-ranking officials from the government, military, paramilitary forces, police, and civil society will also be present at East Tech 2023.
At this event, various Indian manufacturers, including small and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs), the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), and Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), will display their advanced weapons and equipment. This event also supports startups and major players in the defence industry from Assam and other North Eastern states to showcase their innovations in defence.
The event aims to promote self-reliance in India’s defence sector by giving exposure to weapons and equipment made in India. It also encourages collaboration between the private sector, research organizations, and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) to strengthen India’s defence capabilities. This event underscores the importance of India’s defence industry, which has been growing rapidly and contributing to the country’s global reputation and economic strength.
East Tech 2023 has received a strong response from Indian defence manufacturers, and it will be open to the public on the second day. It is an important step in promoting the defence industry and self-reliance in the North East region of India.
