Green Tourism India Conclave 2023 to Promote Responsible Tourism in Northeast India
The Indian Express Online Media (IEOMSL) is set to host the Green Tourism India Conclave 2023, an event with a focus on Responsible Tourism in North-East India.
The Green Tourism India Conclave 2023 will take place at the State Convention Centre, Shillong, on October 19, 2023. The aim of this one-day program, is to encourage tourism that has no negative impact on society or the environment.

IEOMSL is collaborating with the Ministry of Tourism (MoT), Government of India, and the tourism departments of North-Eastern states to host this event. Meghalaya Tourism is the Presenting Partner for the programme.
This Green Tourism India Conclave 2023, taking place throughout the day, will bring together important people from both the government and business sectors. These people include tour operators, hotel owners, community tourism leaders, experts in the field, and regular attendees. People and organizations from the Northeast as well as experts from all over India will take part in this event.
The conclave will also be in line with the ‘Travel for LiFE’ program, introduced by the Ministry of Tourism as part of Mission LiFE. This program will encourage tourists and tourism businesses to make changes in their behavior so that it has a positive impact on environmental conservation and addressing climate issues.
The chief guest for the Green Tourism India Conclave 2023 will be Meghalaya Tourism Minister, Bah Paul Lyngdoh. Dr. Vijay Kumar D, who serves as the Commissioner cum Secretary of Meghalaya’s Tourism Department, and Cyril V.D. Diengdoh, the Director of Tourism for the Government of Meghalaya and the Managing Director of MTDC, will also speak at the event.
The event will also include a performance by Da Thymmei, a local cultural group from Meghalaya. Additionally, a case study titled ‘Tourism in Meghalaya: Challenges & Opportunities’ will be presented by Mr. Gerald Samuel Duia, who serves as the General Secretary of both the Tour Operators Association of Meghalaya (TOAM) and the Tour Guides Association of Meghalaya (TGAM). Several panel discussions will take place as well.
Northeast India is known for its beautiful landscapes and diverse ecosystems. While there’s great tourism potential, it is important to ensure that it doesn’t harm the environment or local communities. Responsible Tourism is the key, and the Green Tourism India Conclave 2023 is working toward this goal. They aim to foster fresh ideas and create a roadmap for sustainable tourism in the Northeastern states.
