Arunachal Pradesh to host the 34th All India Chess Championship from October 26
A national-level chess championship is being held in Arunachal Pradesh for the first time under the aegis of Arunachal Shiksha Vikas Samiti as part of the 34th National Sports Fest, 2023. This event will take place at the Abotani Vidya Niketan Ground in Pachin Colony, Naharlagun, from October 26 to 30.
The championship will feature participants under various age categories, including under 14, under 17, and under 19, for both boys and girls.

The championship is organized by the Vidya Bharati Sports Council, an affiliated body of the School Games Federation of India (SGFI), which is recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, and various international sports associations.
Over 450 students who have emerged as winners in state-level tournaments across the country will be participating in the tournament. Participating teams are arriving in batches from 24 to 26 October. To ensure the tournament’s smooth conduct and offer guidance, technical experts, guides, and resource persons from the School Games Federation of India- School Games Federation of India (VBSC-SGFI) will be present.
The winners of this tournament will earn the honor of representing India at international chess events.

Speaking about the event, the Organizing Committee Chairman, Tai Tagak, expressed his delight at hosting such a prestigious competition in Arunachal Pradesh for the very first time. The Secretary of the Organizing Committee, Gyamar Kassung, shared his thoughts, saying, “We have worked tirelessly to ensure the success of this tournament. It’s not just a competition but a celebration of sportsmanship and chess mastery. We are dedicated to making this event a memorable experience for all the participants.”
The cultural program on October 28 is expected to be graced by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Chief Secretary Dharmendra, and IT Chairman Doni Nich while the concluding event will have the presence of the Arunachal Pradesh Governor KT Parnaik and Sports Minister Mama Natung.
