The Assam government, in a move to strengthen the state’s education system, has invited applications for 14,223 vacant teacher positions across various schools in the state.

While this recruitment drive will provide jobs to the state’s youth under the CM’s 1 Lakh Employment Scheme, it will also be a major step towards addressing the long-standing issue of teacher shortages in Assam, which has hampered the quality of education in many areas.

The positions advertised include teachers for various subjects at lower primary, upper primary and secondary levels. Additionally, there are openings for specialist teachers in subjects like arts, science, Hindi and Sanskrit for provincialised secondary schools.

‘Provincialisation’ involves the government assuming responsibility for all financial obligations of a non-government school established with the primary objective of providing education for societal benefit. This includes covering expenses such as salaries and other benefits for teachers.

Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu shared the information regarding the recruitment of 1,424 post-graduate teachers and 7,249 graduate teachers in secondary schools, 3,800 Assistant Teachers in Lower Primary Schools and 1,750 Assistant Teachers in Upper Primary Schools in a series of posts on the microblogging site, X.

Applications are open to qualified candidates from all over Assam. Applicants can get Information about posts based on district, subject, medium and category through Assam School Education Department’s online portals madhyamik.assam.gov.in and dee.assam.gov.in. The official website will also provide application date details for the TET cum recruitment test.

CM Himanta Biswa Sharma expressed optimism about the impact of this recruitment drive. “Today, our government has released vacancies for over 10,000 posts in the education department. We will not only deliver, but exceed our promise of creating more than 1 lakh government jobs in the most transparent manner in Assam’s history,” he said.

Notably, during the 2021 assembly polls in Assam, the BJP pledged to offer one lakh government jobs annually. However, it later clarified that this commitment was for the entire five-year tenure, not on an annual basis.

This large-scale recruitment drive is expected to attract a large pool of fresh talented individuals into the state’s education system. Young and motivated teachers can bring new ideas and approaches to the classroom, providing a more dynamic and engaging learning environment.
