IAF to celebrate 91st Anniversary with mesmerizing Aerobatic Display over Umiam Lakeview

The Eastern Air Command Headquarters is organizing an air display over Umiam Lakeview to celebrate the 91st Anniversary of the Indian Air Force on October 20, 2023. This event is open to the public and will be an important public outreach initiative by the Indian Air Force. Full Dress Rehearsal is being conducted today from 9.15 am.

The event is set to showcase Flypast by ALH and Chinook helicopters, Dornier transport aircraft, SU-30, and Rafale fighter jets. The pilots of these aircrafts will show their extraordinary skills and professionalism by making various flying formations and a number of aerial manoeuvres.

The Sarang Helicopter Team will show their spectacular helicopter Aerobatic Display. They are known globally as the best helicopter display team.

In a post on X (formerly twitter), the Sarang Helicopter Display Team wrote, “Hello, North East India! The Sarang team is looking forward to performing over lush landscapes and scenic mountains of Guwahati and Shillong in the forthcoming weeks! Catch us perform some breathtaking manoeuvres in your favourite cities.”

Sarang is the helicopter air display team of the Indian Air Force. They fly four modified HAL Dhruv helicopters, also known as Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH). The team was formed in October 2003 and had their first performance in 2004 at the Asian Aerospace show in Singapore. The unit was inducted as No. 151 Helicopter Unit in 2005.

Earlier on October 8, Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj witnessed the aerial display on the occasion of IAF day. On October 15, the air display featuring thrilling performances by the IAF’s finest aircraft was showcased during the 91st Air Force Day celebrations at Air Force Station, Borjhar.

The exciting aerial display of all formation flying in the blue skies of Shillong will once again be visible from Umiam Lake viewpoints on October 20, 2023.

The ceremonious occasion would be witnessed live by state and district dignitaries, air veterans and serving officials of defence and paramilitary forces. PRO Defence, Wing Commander Sreeprakash J said in a press release that the air show is part of the IAF public outreach program.
