Manipur is set to host the North East India Film Festival (NEIFF) 2024 in Imphal. It will be held from 3rd March to 7th March,2024 at Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) hall. This is a first for Manipur, which is a significant milestone for the region’s film industry.

Yengkhom Nilachandra, Chairman of the Organizing Committee for NEIFF, announced at a press briefing held at the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) building in Keishampat on Monday that Manipur will host the NEIFF 2024. Nilachandra shared that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has approved and supported their initiative to organize NEIFF in Manipur.

The festival will be a collaborative effort involving THOUNA Manipur, Film Forum Manipur, DIPR, and the Department of Art & Culture, Government of Manipur, he added.

Nilachandra explained that the festival aims to boost the development of a dynamic and inclusive film industry in North East India. It seeks to support filmmakers and technicians with distinctive visions, promote artistic excellence, and uphold the creative freedom of artists. Additionally, the festival aims to highlight the unmatched traditional and cultural heritage of the region through cinema.

He emphasized that NEIFF 2024 is a competitive festival for feature films produced and certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) between January 1 and December 31, 2023. Producers and filmmakers from the eight North East States are invited to submit their entries for the film festival.

Submissions of applications for the festival have begin from January 8 and will conclude on February 2. All entries should be directed to the NEIFF Directorate at the Manipur State Film and Television Institute (MSFIT) Building, located near the Palace Gate in Imphal. The chosen films will be revealed on February 20.

This year, the awards lineup consists of categories such as Best Production Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Screenwriter, Special Mention, and Special Jury Award. Each award will include a statuette, a citation, and cash prizes.
