Making the announcement on X, CM Neiphiu Rio said, “State Hub for Empowerment of Women (SHEW) focuses on the upliftment, safety and security of women. Taking cognizance of the important role women play in the State’s developmental process, the Govt. of Nagaland is committed towards their holistic development.”

The Hub for Empowerment of Women aims to bring together various schemes and programs for women. This includes national-level programs (NHEW), state/Union Territory-level efforts (SHEW), and district-level initiatives (DHEW).

SHEW operates as a sub-scheme of Mission Shakti, functioning as the state’s project management unit for overseeing all the different parts of Mission Shakti.

Mission Shakti is a program designed to enhance the safety, security, and empowerment of women. It aims to promote women’s leadership in development by addressing various challenges that women face throughout their lives. It also aims to involve women as equal partners in building the nation by bringing together different government efforts and involving citizens. Additionally, it encourages the active participation of local governing bodies like Panchayats to support these efforts.

SHEW will guide and link women to various institutional and schematic set-ups at district/block/gram panchayats level across the country.

SHEW is established at the state level and DHEW is established in 11 districts, i.e. Dimapur, Kohima, Kiphire, Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Peren, Phek, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto. For the remaining five districts – Noklak, Chumoukedima, Niuland, Tseminyu, and Shamator – the establishment of DHEW is currently in progress.
