Sikkim CM announces ‘Sikkim Creatorpreneur Yojana’ to empower young social media influencers
In a move to leverage the power of social media and engage youth, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has announced the “Sikkim Creatorpreneur Yojana” scheme. This initiative aims to empower young content creators and social media influencers by providing them with an opportunity to monetize their talent while promoting the state’s flagship schemes and achievements.
Sikkimese youth with a social media following (ranging from 500 to over 10,000 followers) can participate by creating video reels promoting various government programs like the Aama Yojana, Mero Rukh Mero Santati, and Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana.
The creators will be rewarded with cash incentives based on the engagement and reach of their content.
Incentives range from INR 10,000 to INR 5 lakh, offering significant earning potential for talented individuals.
CM Prem Singh Tamang outlined the incentive framework, stating, “This scheme will engage thousands of Sikkimese youth productively and provide them with the opportunity to work from home. We will invest Rs. 100 crores, ensuring that the money goes into the pockets of our youth rather than a select few.”
Beyond just earning, Sikkim Creatorpreneur Yojana offers several benefits:
Skill development: Participants can hone their content creation skills through workshops and training programs organized by the government.
Employment opportunities: This initiative creates new avenues for digital employment, especially for those residing in remote areas.
Wider reach for government schemes: Leveraging the influence of social media influencers helps spread awareness about important government programs to a wider audience, potentially leading to increased uptake and effectiveness.
Boosting Sikkim’s image: Engaging young creators to showcase the beauty, culture, and achievements of Sikkim can attract more tourists and investors, benefitting the state’s economy.
The Chief Minister urged eligible young individuals to register and actively engage in this initiative, expressing, “Now, every young person will serve as an ambassador for Sikkim. Why look elsewhere when our own youth can represent our state?”
The Sikkim Creatorpreneur Yojana can be seen as a platform to showcase Sikkimey talent and earn recognition. However, there are concerns regarding content quality, potential misinformation and ensuring transparency in influencer selection and incentive distribution.
The Sikkim government needs to make sure to address these concerns by setting clear guidelines for content creation, establishing a robust evaluation process, and collaborating with social media platforms to ensure transparency.
