Swimmers across the state of Sikkim are excited about the upcoming 17th Sikkim State Open Swimming Championship, which will be held at Tashi Namgyal Academy on September 9th and 10th. The Sikkim Amateur Swimming Association (SASA) is gearing up for the event and has everything prepared for this big event in Sikkim.

The swimming championship is going to be a huge event with a total of 93 swimming events. These events are open to men and women, junior boys and girls and sub-junior boys and girls. Participants can compete in various swimming styles like freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly stroke, medley, and relay.

Speaking to the media, SASA president Kuber Bhandari shared that they anticipate about 150 participants to join the swimming championship. This year, they’ve added QR codes to make registration easier. People who want to take part can visit SASA’s Facebook and Instagram pages where they will find QR codes for registration. Remember, the championship is open only to people who live in Sikkim or those who are studying, working, or living in the state.

Bhandari also said that Chief Minister P.S. Golay has given them his assurance to set up a swimming academy within the state. This means that in the future, there will be a place for people to learn and train in swimming right here in Sikkim. A designated facility where individuals can access professional training and education in the sport of swimming would ensure that we could see more swimmers emerging from the state of Sikkim who would represent India at international events.

“We are really hopeful that this will happen soon and it will be very good for the swimmers in our state. It will help them get better and become successful not only in our state but also in the whole country and even in other countries. We, the members of SASA, want to say thank you to the CM for helping us in our swimming activities,” Bhandari expressed.
