Uma was a part of the Indian women’s team that won a gold medal in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China while Jintimani was a part of the Mumbai Indians’ women’s team and played in their championship campaign.
Uma Chetry hailing from Kandulimari village in Assam’s Golaghat is the first player from the Gorkha community to represent India in cricket. She was the first woman to be called up to an India squad from Assam for the Asian Games though she had been unlucky earlier to not have been bought at the WPL.
Jintimani Kalita hailing from Mangaldai was the first player from her state to be bought in the WPL. In 2022, she was among the top 25 u-19 cricketers called up by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for a high-performance camp.
The upcoming series against England will be an important series for the girls to showcase their talents which will open up doors for them to move to the next league of selection.
The duo’s selection will provide motivation for upcoming women cricketers from the North East to take the game of cricket seriously, ushering in a new era for the female cricketing community.
