Bihu Committees in Assam to get one-time financial assistance of Rs. 1.5 Lakhs

With the objective to promote and preserve the rich cultural heritage of Assam, the state government has announced a one-time financial assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh to Bihu committees across the state. The initiative aims to support the organizing of the festival, one of the most significant festivals in Assam.

Bihu, celebrated around agriculture cycle, is the essence of Assam and is celebrated across the state with a tremendous zeal and enthusiasm. There are three Bihu festivals namely ‘Bohag Bihu’ celebrated in the month of ‘Bohag’ (Baisakh, the middle of April), ‘Magh Bihu’ celebrated in the month of ‘Magh’ (the middle of January), and ‘Kati Bihu’ celebrated in the month of ‘Kati’ (Kartik, the middle of October). Each of the  festival has its own significance and is celebrated with its own traditions.

Magh Bihu is a harvest festival celebrated with great enthusiasm in Assam, marks the beginning of the Assamese New Year. The festival is celebrated in different phases, each with its own unique traditions and rituals. The government’s financial assistance will enable Bihu committees to organize vibrant and culturally enriching celebrations, showcasing the state’s vibrant culture and traditions.

The festival is an integral part of Assamese identity and cultural heritage. The initiative of the Government is a positive step towards preserving and promoting the cultural traditions. Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that this is the first time that the Government has take any such initiative.

The grant will be used to cover expenses related to the organization of the festival, including stage decorations, music, and refreshments. The initiative has been welcomed by organizing committees across the state, who have expressed their gratitude to the government for its support.

The government’s initiative is expected to revitalize the celebration and attract tourists from across the country and abroad. The festival will not only showcase Assam’s rich cultural traditions but also provide a platform for local artists and performers to showcase their talent.
