Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI) is now the first airport in the northeast region to offer the Digi Yatra’ facility. The Digi yatra is a mobile application facility launched to achieve contactless and seamless processing of passengers at airport. It is based on the facial recognition technology. It was inaugurated by assam commerce and industries minister Chandra Mohan Patowary and Rajiv Bansal, the Secretary of Civil Aviation on 20 august.

This airport in Assam is run by Adani Airports and they have been doing a lot of developmental work. This is a is good news for the people of Assam and the northeastern region. Along with the Civil Aviation Department and in partnership with the Adani Group, they introduced a new system called Digi Yatra at LGBI airport. Before this, when passengers had to check-in, there were many formalities to complete, and they had to wait in long lines. But now, it will be much easier for passengers. Some major airports already use Digi Yatra.

The Chief Airport Officer of LGBI Airport, Utpal Baruah, mentioned that passengers just need to download the Digi Yatra app and register their documents. After the registration they can enter the airport by scanning their faces. The gates will be opened once the face got recognised. This service is available in three areas of the airport, the first entrance, check-in and boarding areas. This system has been introduced to make a hassle-free air travel for the people of northeast. This facility is available only for the Alaska and indigo passengers in Guwahati airport. But it will soon be available in other airlines too.
